New Years 2019

Dear Reader,

Happy New Year! As I’m writing this, it’s New Year’s Eve (2018), and what a year it’s been! Here are some of the events of 2018:

January – legal name change finalized, came out publicly on social media. Had my intake appointment to begin the process for bottom surgery

May – Accepted for bottom surgery, scheduled surgical consult

September – Met with surgeon for surgical consult, scheduled bottom surgery!

October – First Halloween in a costume I wanted.

December – Fight with insurance company over bottom surgery coverage (more on that in a future post).

Expectations for 2019:

As of today, I am pre-authorized (by my insurance) for my bottom surgery! This has been a huge battle and a heavy burden. I now have about 2 weeks to finish getting ready.

As I’ve posted about previously, I’m a big fan of Cirque du Soleil. About a month ago, I found out that one of their shows will be visiting a city nearby in 2019, and I’m looking forward to that visit. More on that as it develops.

One of the bigger challenges of my gender journey is the changes it has brought, both for me individually, and for the people in my family. It has felt like a roller coaster ride at times, with us getting thrown around and not able to maintain much stability. After the first part of the new year, I’m hoping that things will calm down and we will find a new normal. I’m looking forward to not having to spend so much time moving myself along this path and instead being able to just enjoy the scenery.

Aside from these things, I’m trying to not place expectations on 2019. I want to experience it as it unfolds. What about you? What are your hopes and expectations for 2019?

Happy New Year!
